The Function Of The Motor Insurers’ Bureau In Bringing An Accident Claim Against Untraced Motorists

Car crashes are one of the most traumatic events that people may experience in their lives. The shock that we suffer can take some getting over, as can any injuries sustained. The whole terrible experience can prove to be even worse when the driver at fault doesn’t hang around, but instead flees the scene. This can leave the victim worrying about whether they can bring an accident claim. But help is at hand in the form of the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB).
Number of uninsured drivers on the rise
Motorists that are likely to flee the scene of a crash are likely to be over the drink drive limit, or not have any insrance. A rising number of motorists are now driving on the UK roads without insurance and estimates suggest it may be as many as 1 out of every 12.
Financial worries
Not only is the victim faced with the cost of replacing or repairing their vehicle, but they also face the prospect of not being able to work due to injuries. This can leave the victim in severe financial difficulties if they can’t bring an accident claim against the driver at fault.
MIB to the rescue
Set up in 1946, the MIB is an industry organisation that aims to help out those that are hit by an untraceable or uninsured driver. Any compensation due to the victim will be paid by the MIB, which is in truth funded by law abiding motorists. This is because all insurance companies are required by law to register with the MIB and contribute towards its running. Therefore, every motorist insuring their vehicle pays an estimated £40 more because of the rogue drivers.
Whilst paying this extra money may stick in our throats a little, you will be happy that the MIB exists in the event that you wish to pursue and accident claim following a hit and run car crash.Whilst the fact that you have to pay this extra on top of your insurance premium is frustrating, do not underestimate how thankful you will be of the MIBs existence if you are involved in a hit and run and wish to bring an accident claim.
