IN the UK today, industrial disease is a major killer. To illustrate this, the Health and Safety estimates that in the UK 6,000 people every year lose their lives as a result of cancers caused by exposure to asbestos dust during their careers. These diseases are so devastating that victims are entitled to claim compensation, but the process can be more complex than the average injury claim and only a very skilled and experienced compensation lawyer will do.
Sadly, the most common cancer relating to industrial disease is also the most serious. Mesothelioma is a deadly form of lung disease related to asbestos exposure which is terminal and kills victims withing two years. This means that time is of the essence for workers looking to claim compensation. If a compensation lawyer has not had the necessary training and experience then they could waste time that the victim simply does not have. For most victims, winning some form of monetary compensation makes them more relaxed knowing their family will be taken care of after they have gone.

It is not uncommon for the cancer to be diagnosed as many as thirty or forty years after exposure. Because the responsible company has often ceased trading, finding details of their employers’ liability insurance can often seem like an uphill struggle. Fortunately, a well qualified and experienced compensation lawyer will be able to call upon plenty of information to help locate the insurance company required.
Lastly, a good compensation lawyer understands the importance of care and compassion. Financial problems shouldn’t have to be an additional concern for the sufferer, so a good solicitor will be able to give advice on other things such as claiming benefits.
