Worldwide, car accident are amongst the highest causes of death. The average number of people to die in a car crash in America is 40,000. In 2002 alone, there has been a reported 43,005 deaths caused by car accidents. If you have been hurt in a car accident then you should get in touch with a road traffic accident specialist.
Why do most car accidents happen?
Negligent Driving
Negligence by drivers can happen in many ways. Aggressive driving, inexperience and alcohol play a major part in negligent driving.
One of the most common instances of negligent driving is that of rubbernecking, or turning your head to look at distractions in the road. Driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited in the US. This is considered as a criminal offense and is not taken lightly. 40% of deaths on the road are attributed to alcohol. Inexperience is another way that accidents occur especially if they are not accompanied by an experienced driver. One quarter of reported car accidents involved teenage drivers. Aggressive driving like lane hopping and getting too close to other road users is another way in which accidents are caused.
Vehicles
The poor design of some cars or faulty parts can contribute to road traffic accidents. A car with a bad design might be more likely to get damaged and the driver die. For example, passenger cars are designed with safety in mind whereas SUVs are less stable.
Road and weather conditions
Of course it is true that we cannot control the weather. But you can make sensible decisions like staying off icy roads, going slower in the rain and keeping tyres cool in hot weather.
How can I avoid car accidents?
Being responsible when you drive is the best way to avoid accidents. Take an experienced driver with you if you have only just got your licence. Never drive after drinking alcohol. Concentrate on the road, disregard any distractions while driving. If you do get distracted, stop in a safe parking place. Always keep yourself abreast to weather conditions before going out. Make sure and check your vehicle for any problems even before you hit the road. When it comes to driving, you are more likely to avoid an accident if you are prepared.
